Dear Issa Rae,

Yesterday, I decided to engage in a bit of online humor and remembered the rave reviews I heard about your show via Clutch magazine. Within the first minute I was hooked. I laughed until the episode was over and repeated the same pattern until I realized I had completed the series in one sitting. Thank you for making characters that I and so many others can relate to. Yes, I have tried to avoid making eye contact with someone I know while driving or walking down a hall way. Yes, I've pretended to search for that important "thing" in my car to avoid an awkward situation and although I've never faked a phone conversation I've certainly typed out a few fake text messages. We even share an obsession with Donald Glover. You get me and I get you! Awkwardness transcends race and gender and it's evident in your comedy. Like your producer said, "There's a little bit of awkward in all of us" and your show makes it that much cooler.

So, I'm always excited to broaden my collection of music and currently Bon Iver is my indie band of choice. Even though I can't say I've been a fan since the beginning; it's nice to add a change of pace to my itunes by placing this serene almost melancholy group in the midst of the vibrant jazz, hip hop, and r&b tunes. A few nights ago during a spout of insomnia and channel surfing, a skinny woman with big hair stole my attention. Her name is Shingai Shoniwa,pronounced Sheen Gee, of Zimbabwean descent and hails from England. She's the lead singer and bassist of the music group Noisettes. The girl has style and personality for days, so much so that you can't help but to become a fan. Are You An Amber?

A few days ago I made a shopping trip to my local mall. I'm not sure if it's like this for everyone else, but whenever I need to walk out with shopping bags I always leave empty-handed and I didn't want that to happen this trip.

After 30 minutes of picking over the endless racks I found a statement piece! I ran my hands over the sleeves of the dress in approval and thought my mission was complete. Then I realized the dress I had fallen in love with so quickly already had a home in my friend's closet.

Although I tried to ignore it, I didn't like the idea of being a clone. Seeing myself in the mirror with her dress on opened a flood gate of questions. But nothing ceased the desire to head for the cash register until the following scene began to play out in my head:




























In the end I couldn't go through with the purchase. I've never been an Amber and I refused to let that trip be a turning point. Have you ever been tempted? Or have you ever noticed that your friends new dress looked a lot like the one you had on last week. Sound off in the comments below.

I was going through my favorite videos on YouTube and I came across a classic scene from the early days of "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". It's dinner time and Will is amusing himself by creatively making a tune with the silverware and china. Although, it was worthy of hitting radio waves the impromptu performance was a bit innappropriate.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we've put together a top five etiquette list of things Will Smith might do at the dinner table but you shouldn't.

Thou Shall Not Bring See Food to the table. You know the joke we all played when we were younger? The one where you ask if anyone wants sea food and then you proceed to show them all of your bits and pieces. Yeah that one. I agree it was hilarious the first time. But, now that we're adults we don't want to see what you're working with. So, once the food goes in chew with your mouth closed.

Thou Shall Not engage in social network sites (Twitter, Facebook), text, or make a call during dinner. So, most of that didn't exist during the 90's. But, we'd be willing to bet that if it did Will would be sending tweets about Uncle Phil eating the entire turkey by himself.

Thou Shall Not stretch across the table. It's better to "pass the peas like you used to do" than to reach over your neighbor.

Thou Shall Not criticize the food. Yes, Mama can make the dressing way better. But, if you don't having anything nice to say... don't say anything at all.

And the most important rule of them all!

Thou Shall Not perform a song at the table without asking for requests first. .... Okay that last one was clearly a joke.

Urban Dictionary describes the "it-girl" as someone every girl wants to be. She has style, smarts and self confidence. Lately we've noticed a common denominator between the majority of "it-girls". They're all in love with the art of disc jockeying.

Like a moth is drawn to a flame these trendsetters are drawn to turn tables. Here are a few of our favorites.

Beverly Bond the DISC JOCKEY. She is also a model, wife and hero around the world for making "Black Girls Rock".

I've Been Minxed

I'm not sure what grabs me the most... the way light reflects off of their shiny surface or the fact that they're low maintenance and have a long life expectancy. Either way, Minx nails are great addition to the nail art culture.

What are they? A solid film with adhesive on the back that's heat activated. Just imagine really shiny stickers.

How Does it Work? Just like any other visit to the nail salon, you start off with a manicure. After making sure your nails are perfectly shaped the film is applied. There's no top coat or drying time. After the excess film is cut to match your nail shape you're all set to go. The process probably takes 35 minutes or less, which is about the same amount of time I'd wait for a regular manicure.

How Long Do They Last? Manicure's are supposed to last a week, while pedicures should last up to five weeks. I was advised to firmly press the edges of my nails whenever I got a chance and to stay away from greasy substances in order to keep them looking fresh. I only noticed a little bit of wear on the edge of my nails after the fifth day.

Are They Worth it? Of course! My nails have never received so many compliments. Minx are literally conversation starters!

She states how this healthy lifestyle directly impacts how you look and feel. There are certain nutrients that are important for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails. How to: Be Beautiful

Working in retail is very interesting. Before I applied for the job of sales associate I didn't know it really meant "personal cheerleader".

I spend a lot of time in the fitting room. I grab different sizes, fold clothes and organize "go backs". But, I spend even more time giving thumbs up, smiling, and throwing out reassuring compliments. Boy is it exhausting!

Too many women are not happy with their bodies and it's evident when they enter the fitting room. Those mirrors can either be therapeutic or invoke disastrous words. It's either "That doesn't look good on big girls like me, maybe on you". "My boobs are too big". or "See I need a but like yours". Yes, these are actual quotes that I've heard over a five month span. I find it unsettling, because these ladies are gorgeous. But, they don't appreciate how they were made.

Attention, beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, complexions, and ages. I'm sure it's normal to go through that "I'm not cute stage" because I've gone through it. But, snap out of it and turn that feature that everyone teased you about into your uniqueness. Because, after all we're not all meant to look alike.

If you're still feeling uncomfortable in your skin follow these steps. I'm no expert, but I believe they're real confidence boosters.

1. Smile. I'm not sure what it is about a smile that does the trick. But I've never met a smiling person that was not pretty. They just seem friendly and likeable. And when you smile you become memorable and get a lot of attention. It's true. There was an experiment conducted by students. The more they smiled the more the teacher looked their way and favored them. Besides, who wants to be around someone who's constantly frowning.

2. Be Healthy. Exercise and drink as much water as you can. Tyra, yes we're on a first name basis, taught me to how to get the proper water intake. "Divide your weight (in pounds) by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day". Were you aware that humans are made up of 75% of water?

3. Take Care of Yourself. Although I'm sure a small percent of the world like Aishwarya Rai can roll out of bed and turn heads in a positive way. Most of us cannot, let's just be real. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just take time to comb your hair, wash your face, stand up straight, even wear a little makeup. My personal favorite is wearing something nice. A great outfit just does something special. Just think, why is fashion so important? It makes one feel and look beautiful.

4. Don't be Conceited! Attitude is everything. If you know you're beautiful then you'll walk and speak like you are and everyone will notice. But, don't become overwhelming. No one is better than the next, and screaming your beautiful while putting others down is just annoying. And frankly, ugly :D.

5. Get Comfortable in Front of the Mirror and Believe in Your Beauty. Kurt Vonnegut said, "We are what we pretend to be, so be careful what you pretend to be". In other words you can be whatever you want. In this case it's beautiful. Say it out loud and actually believe it. And yes, the "American Standard of Beauty" does exist. But, if you're not celebrated here, your look is definitely coveted somewhere in the world and it's warming to know that.

Today is "Happy Black Girl Day", the internet holiday started by Sister Tojldah. I love the concept of "Happy Black Girl Day" and I also love that a lot of its supporters on Twitter have amazing natural healthy manes.

The time, money and thousands of different hairstyles we create for ourselves confirms that hair is a big part of our lifestyles as Black women. When it comes to Black hair we're almost like Zebras. We're all the same. But we all have different hair textures which results in different styles. The style I see the least and seems to get a bad rap is natural hair.

Although I personally love it, I will admit that I frequently dabble in the use of a hot comb, weave, and in my younger days braids.

I recently went natural and even though it was only for a few hours I loved every second of it. I felt free when my hair was in its natural state and missed my curls after they were straightened.

There's controversy surrounding natural hair. But it is beautiful. Since "Happy Black Girl Day" is here there's no turning back. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Black hair by shining light on those who wear it well. Being a writer/reporter is big fun. One, you get published. Two, you get to meet interesting celebs and three you get great swag.

The most useful item I've received was from PETA's 30th Anniversary. Out of all the things that were packed in the gift bag "Yes to Carrots: C Through the Night Moisturizing Cream" ranked the highest.

Once it's applied, the paraben free cream makes my dry skin feel like silk. It has a thick non greasy texture which allows me to use it during the day and night. And I can't get enough of the floral scent which reminds me of fresh Jasmine's.

I love Facebook. When a user isn't allowing their own privacy to be invaded it can really be useful. The Social Network is where I discover new music, funny videos, world news and pretty much all things relevant to my generation. Today I stumbled across a status from one of my artsy friends. It was centered around her new found love for Camila do Rosario. One response went something like this "just fell [in love]? sheesh catch up".

I don't like being the last person to hear about exciting news; so I had to figure out who this girl was and quick. Turns out she's a fashion student and a very innovative artist who is based out of Florianopolis, Brazil. If you're like us and our late friend from Facebook we've got a lot of catching up to do. The Buzz around the viral neck of the woods is about Vashtie Kola and her Air Jordans. I love it, because I love Vashtie. The first time I saw her, online of course, was on the arm of my teenage crush Pharrell Williams. I don't know about Pharrell, but I remember she was wearing an electric teal dress embellished with fringe tassels. My first thought wasn't "Who is this girl with my boyfriend-in-my-head?". Because one that would be psycho and two for a few seconds Pharrell was irrelevant. I simply thought "Who is this girl?". Shortly after, my Vashtie fascination began. She's cool for so many reasons, but here's a few if you're totally unfamiliar with her.

She's a tomboy. It's very hard to pull off the dressing down thing. And Vashite does it like no other. If you Google her, more than a few images will come up where she's wearing a basic hoodie, t-shirt, and jeans combination.

"She got her own". Video director and owner of the clothing line Violette. Vashtie is what most would call an independent woman. I find this admirable. Before she and Pharrell were an item, she was in the process of making a name for herself. See her work for Justin Bieber here.

The girl has great taste in movies. Before I knew who the ladies of Grey Gardens were she declared their documentary as one of her favorites when she used it as an ad for her clothing line.

She throws wildly popular parties in NYC. Both Open which she throws with Q-Tip and "1992" which is thrown with her best friend bring out the greats like Maxwell, Kid Cudi, Mick Jagger, Patrick Ewing and more. Isn't name dropping great :)!

She's the first woman to design a pair of Air Jordans. On Dr.Jays.com Vashtie mentions "Growing up in the hood. Nikes were king, but Jordans were a whole other level. They were so expensive and their price made them out of reach as a poor kid. As soon as I got old enough to afford them, I went in!". I think pining for a specific item, buying it, and then later creating your own defines success.

Trying Out for the Part of Susie Homemaker

Lately, I've been perplexed with the question "What should I do with myself?". I've just finished an amazing yet rigorous five month internship at Vogue and my undergraduate career is complete. Other college graduates have shared stories of their summer boredom with me, but I just blew them off. I live for sleep-in-days, so I honestly thought anyone who takes having nothing to do for granted is insane. I quickly found out that watching re-runs of "The Bad Girls Club" gets really old. I was craving a task to get my mind off the fact that if I don't find a stable job soon I'll be the female version of Tyrese's infamous character Jody.

So, I took it upon myself to try to get in touch with my roots. Specifically my homemaker roots. Before someone had the genius idea of wanting to work and fight in the military, us girls had to learn important life skills such as cooking, cleaning, sewing, being creatively submissive etc. I decided I wanted to incorporate a few of those gems, sans being creatively submissive, in my life.

Here's my progress over a two day span:

My sister's friend just had a birthday. Without her permission I decided to wrap the gift. Yes I even sewed the button on top. I have a lot of time on my hands people!

I call these little mini bad girls "Strasberry Cream Cheese Cupcakes". Not only are they adorable they taste good too. And yes, I made these while wearing heels and a cute little apron. I just felt like it was appropriate.

So to my college graduates, what have you been doing to kill the boredom? While YouTube videos are mildly amusing, they don't count :).

Not sure about you all, but I’m the biggest kid at heart. I go gaga for rocks, glitter, and basically anything shiny. We might be able to attribute this obsession to those cool shiny rocks I found as a child on the playground… you know the ones that reminded you of fool’s gold but were more similar to concrete (If you don’t remember it’s okay we’re moving right along). Mctega’s collection encompasses all of the above and more, which is why I became faint at heart and weak in the knees when I got a glimpse of this rock masterpiece at Free People. I wasn’t sure when I would see something so similar to the necklace of my dreams again without buying the real deal. So, we bought it, and by we I mean my sister. There are many perks of being a little sister and borrowing a piece of jewelry until it becomes yours is one of them. Just kidding. I will be wearing it sparingly. At the same time we breathed "ooohs and ahhhs" we despised the fact that they had an advert for Huge, a new show about an over weight young woman on one page and on the very next there was the tiniest bombshell in a two piece bikini. (You have to see this for yourself to feel the outrage). We immediately thought "Teen Vogue, what exactly are you trying to say to your readers?". And more importantly what about the poor girl who was featured in the letters to the editor section. She just admitted that the Unhappy Meal article helped her uncover her diets for what they really were... eating disorders. We hoped that little advertising faux pas didn't send her into a relapse. But at the turn of a page all of our thoughts evaporated... and we saw the ethereal beauty from Sudan Ataui Deng! Teen Vogue is known for featuring the "it girl(s)". So we weren't too shocked to see the brown toned model flashing her bright smile. However, we can say we got a flash of anxiety! We're enthused about what's to come from Ms. Deng. She's already modeled for Proenza Schouler and walked for Malandria. So we know she'll carry on with the likes of Lopez and Dunn in the near future. But for now we'll just admire her flawless skin, girl next door smile, and ridiculously long legs in the new issue. If you don't have it yet take a gander at Deng below

While looking throught the website of GQ, we came upon a funny/true article called Undateable, about styles that are just so wrong for men. Items of clothing that guys should never wear because it's just hideous. Below are a few styles that we agreed on with GQ that are just simple wrong.

1. Embellished Jeans
-Keep it simple men, no need for studs, rhinestones, and designs all over your jeans.

2.Ed Hardy
We don't even have to say anything about Ed Hardy, because it speaks for itself on how ugly it is.

3.Sunglasses Indoors At Night
You are not P Diddy or Usher and there are no sun rays indoors. It doesn't make you look cool, you just look ridiculous.

4.Mesh Clothing
Yes, we know the 80's are making a comeback, but somethings need to stay in the 80's. Mesh being one of them.

We couldn't help but notice all of the stripped shirts in the March issue of Teen Vogue. It's a staple in our closets. However, we wanted to venture out into different styles of nautical attire to prevent ourselves from looking like a carbon copy of the girl next to us. View our inspiration board below to see the direction we're heading towards.

1. This Stem Stripe Organic Cotton shirt for $32 would look adorable tucked into shorts and worn with a jean jacket and sandals.

Kayce by Day Sunni Ali Ber by Night

We aren't sure if we can list this as a hobby, but style scouting is one of our favorite things to do before we venture off to morning classes. Our eyes endlessly wander around campus for people with style worthy to be shot by the Sartorialist yet still conscious about being dressed appropriately for school. Monday morning we spotted Kayce, a seemingly friendly student with beaucoup fashion sense. The only problem was we were ill equipped to capture his outfit... the camera was still sitting in a purse from the previous day! However, he was willing to meet us later. Wednesday swiftly approached with plans to track the guy with indelible style down. Until he told us he "wasn't really dressed up today". At first, a slight sense of melancholy began to move in until we remembered that dressing down doesn't always mean that one's style vanishes. Turns out, Kayce's idea of "not dressed up" is more impressive than the average student (see Wednesday's outfit above). Here's where the interesting part comes in, this style maven is an artist that goes by the name of Sunni Ali Ber. Although he's currently labeled as underground, we'd be willing to bet that label will change in the near future. His songs aren't shallow, the music is interesting enough to keep our attention which says a lot, and his "flow" mirrors the likes of Lupe Fiasco and The Cool Kids. What's unique about him is he's more than music. With style, brains (a sophomore civil engineering major with junior credits) and talent you seriously cannot go wrong. Sunni Ali Ber will be releasing a mixtape titled Cake & Candle Wax. We'll be sure to feature it once it arrives but click here until it's ready to be served.

By the way, we think the late King would totally approve of the Kayce using his name :).

TBC: What influenced your collection as a whole?

DB: Well I have 3 main influences, they are the traditional Japanese arashi and shibui technique, the West African masquerade costuming, and the African American southern piecing of stripped piecing of quilts.

TBC: You mentioned the West African Culture, have you been able to visit?

DB: I’ve seen some collections at the Fowler [Museum], particularly they had one of the women of Sierra Leone almost about two years ago. They had a collection of their costumes and their masquerade and their sculpture.

TBC: Can you tell me about the process, how long did it take to create?

DB: This large costume this is kind of the West African Masquerade costume that I was influenced by [points toward the piece in the third picture]. It took some time; I started a portion of it last semester, the fall semester. And I expanded it over the break and a portion of this semester.

TBC: What kind of material did you use?

DB: For this one, there’s raffia, I have some woven yarn, sisal, jute, and natural organic fibers.

TBC: Do you think you might go into the fashion scene, and sell some of the tie-dye pieces?

DB: Yes, I have an interest in textile surface designing which is creating the patterns that go on the fabric.

TBC: Any favorite experiences from creating?

DB: It’s the process, when I began to work with the materials I like to work with the different textures and materials, it’s in the moment.

TBC: So you don’t map it out before hand?

DB: It’s kind of improvisational in a sense. I have a concept. But, it really comes together when I’m actually working.

TBC: Is there anything you want to add that I didn’t cover?

DB: Just, that I enjoyed this.

This flea market is held every Sunday in the parking lot at Fairfax High School, with over 3,000 attendees every Sunday. We've never been here, but we've heard amazing things about the flea market. We will visit very soon.

treasure item you've been looking for.

"My Prison, My Home" Art Installation by Lizbeth Navarro

It isn't uncommon for an artist to attach a message to their work. But, when the viewer walks out what do they take with them? Vague memories of pretty images, or a sense of empathy and an urge to learn more? The Bazaar Collection was fortunate enough to experience the latter Sunday afternoon. We often wander through the art galleries at California State University, Long Beach to see the latest work. However, we did not expect the experience that came from "My Prison, My Home". It's hard to get a grasp of what life would be like as one who is pursuing the American Dream. But Lizbeth Navarro makes that process easier; The small statured student with a lively smile gave us insight behind what meets the eye. Read her words below and be sure to visit the art galleries at CSULB to see "My Prison, My Home" in person.

TBC: Can you elaborate on the concept of "My Prison, My Home"?

LN: "My prison, My Home" is a metaphor, for the feeling of imprisonment that many undocumented students experience in their daily lives. The country that they chose to be their home has become their prison, because they are aware that if they get out of the country, they can't come back in. They make of their prison a comfortable and cozy home.

TBC: I felt as though I was really inside of your home. How did you decide what objects to include and leave out?

LN: Well, I wanted to make my home as comfortable as possible. I included objects that allude to a cozy and secure feeling, I have the sofa, the pillow, the blanket, cup of fresh tea, candles and books to emphasize this point. I also included objects that are ironic to be in a house where the person cannot get out and explore. I have plants that symbolize nature and the outside world, a photography camera and a globe of the world with all the countries that this person cannot go to. And I crafted out of clay that are a lot more personal an symbolic to this person, the objects that represent time, these are the calendar, the candles,the bible, and letters from relatives.

TBC: If the walls could talk they would have a lot to say. I noticed the walls had very bold statements. Are these your thoughts or have they been expressed by fellow students who are also "undocumented"? Why did you choose to put these statements up?

LN: With this art installation I'm representing a whole community, I'm representing undocumented students all over California and even the US. That is why I decided to include the voices of many of my fellow students that are in the same situation that I am all over the US.

TBC: What struggles do you face as an undocumented student?

LN: First of all we are faced with a lot of stereotypes and an uninformed community that is not willing to listen and understand our needs. We cannot get a legal job, drive or get any type of federal financial aid to support our education.

TBC: You mentioned you can't drive, work etc. does this effect your plans for life after graduation?

LN: Absolutely, my plans after graduation are affected greatly. Like many undocumented grad students I'm going to become another illegal worker trying to pursue the American Dream. My many years of education might become useless if I end up getting hired in a minimum wage job, getting paid under the table. This would only affect more the perception that people have about illegal residents. I would be deprived of sharing my talent, knowledge and experience back to my community and my country because of my legal status.

TBC: Is there a strong sense of community with other students that are going through the same experience? How so?

LN: Yes, the support and the networking that you get from being part of an organization that understands and

knows your need as an illegal student is crucial for us. I'm actually apart of a club on campus called F.U.E.L ( Future Underrepresented Educated Leaders). This club welcomes undocumented students at CSULB and informs us on different issues that are important to us.

TBC: Is there anything students can do to help?

Of course, The DREAM Act can solve this growing problem. Under a rigorous provisions of the DREAM Act , undocumented young people can be eligible for a conditional path to citizenships in exchange for completion of a college degree or two years of military service. At the end of the process, the young person can finally become an American citizen. Unfortunately,the DREAM ACT is stalled at the senate. We as students can motivate an pursue the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi and our local senators to pass the DREAM Act this year. For more info please visit:

TBC: Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen or students who are transferring to CSULB?

LN: Yeah, to inform themselves to know what their fighting for and know their rights. If we want a change we need to be part of it, we need to be the change we want to see in the world.

After seeing "Shutter Island" TBC felt that the film was a directorial nod to the once great Alfred Hitchcock. The acknowledged master of the thriller genre, who brilliantly blended sex, humor, and suspense. One of his many sayings, that seems to have inspired the film "Shutter Island" in our opinion was "Always make the audience suffer as much as possible." If you've never seen any of his films, we suggest that you check out "Vertigo" and "Spellbound" with the amazing James Stewart and Gregory Peck.

Hopefully they won't wait another 8 years, because there are so many beautiful black models in the fashion industry. It's the starts of a new decade, we think it's time for a change.

Shutter Island

Leondardo DiCaprio plays a U.S. marshall who takes on the case of locating a missing patient at Shutter Island. With the help of his partner (Mark Ruffalo), he finds that more questions arise than answers. While attempting to make sense out of it all, he has to deal with haunting memories of his past.You'll find a lot of twists, turns, and shocking moments in "Shutter Island" that leave you on the edge of your seat. Overall, TBC thought it was a "mind trip", we walked out a little confused and entertained (the latter weighs more than the former). We suggest seeing it if you're really into mystery and suspense. In the mean time we're going to find the book it was adapted from because we have a few questions of our own.

TBC just finished watching a full hour of RED models featured on BET Centric's new reality show "Model City". The show follows black male models and everything that comes along with the industry including: scouting, drama, prodding egos, and of course flawless bone structure.

We really liked the show because it was entertaining. Plus, we got a chance to see a different side of the fashion industry that doesn't get too much light (the models personalities). Honestly, we weren't surprised by the "frenemy" relationships. But, we were a little surprised by one of the leading men, watch the show tonight at 8 p.m. to figure out which one it is.

Hint he's dating a very successful model.

We're quite sure you've noticed that TBC doesn't shy away from the expression of love. Alex Prager's art has been catching our eye since 2006 and we don't want to be coy about the obsession anymore. We want the L.A. native to bring her show back home. Maybe this letter will be luring enough to do the trick... we hope.

Dear Alex,

There's a luring mystery behind your photographs that we just can't get enough of. Maybe it's the waxiness of the models skin, the different body types used, their daring poses, vintage clothes, or faux hair. Whatever it is, the concept works.

Being original is hard these days and we love you for steering clear of generic. Yet, you understood that it's important for your work to be gentle on the eyes which avoids confusion. We're looking forward to seeing these photographs in person one day! Till then we'll quietly comb through the corners of the web to find more of your work.

All Pinned Up Art Collection at CSULB

TBC got a chance to speak with artist Ashleymarie Sey DeBondt, from the "All Pinned Up" group art show. She discussed the concept of the collection, her favorite piece, and future showings.

You can see this show at California State University, Long Beach in the Dutzi Gallery from February 14-18th. Gallery hours are mon-thurs 12pm-5pm, Wed 12pm -7pm.

TBC: Where did the concept from "All Pinned Up" come from?

ASD: The theme for the show came from my love from the classic American pin up art and it's evolution into it's own genre. I wanted fellow artists like myself to push our own styles and interpretations of the phrase "All Pinned Up" and see what results came from it. Needless to say, the results were quite pleasing.

TBC: What artists are involved?

ASD: All artists in this show are or have been a [CSULB] Art major (mostly Illustration, Animation, some Drawing & Painting and one Sculpture major who decided to do her first 2D piece).

TBC: What's your favorite piece from the collection and why?

ASD: Wow, honestly the whole show is my favorite piece from the collection. The result of what everyone came up with is the ultimate collaboration piece that I am completely enchanted with. We would not have had such a great show with the high quality and talent that was exhibited for this show. I am proud to say I was apart of this show, and that the work shown is of my fellow artists and illustrators.

TBC: Where can we see your work next?

ASD: Well, the next place you can see my work is going to be in the "Fairytale" show, exhibiting in the Merlino Gallery at CSULB. My friend and fellow colleague, Jacqueline will be curating the show and I will be assisting her in the endeavor. The reception will be Sunday, March 14 from 5pm - 7pm.

It's New York Fashion Week, and you want to talk about your favorite runway shows. But, you're not so sure how to pronounce a certain designer's name. Believe us, the TBC has been there. It wasn't until 2008, via Guts and Guile, that we learned we were supposed to make all of the "t's" in Yves Saint Laurent silent. Before that day, we always butchered the famed designers name. It takes time to learn the proper pronunciation of them all but, here's a head start on the process. Godspeed ladies and gents!

Japanese Cartoon defies description. But, if we had to put the sound into words without getting too cliche... we would say it's a mix of hip hop, rock, and house music with British influence. Each song is different from the next and it carries a hypnotic trance (ex. Benga). What made us notice Japanese Cartoon? The lead vocalist is non other than Wasalu Jaco a.k.a Lupe Fiasco (his name alone lends credibility).

Bobbi Brown's Extreme Party Mascara will separate your lashes ,make them longer, thicker, and curly simultaneously.
It has a great texture, which is a plus because, you can avoid the messy clumped look.

Cons

It's extremely hard to remove, but hey that might be a plus. We want our lashes to last through rain sleet and snow right?
The Price: It costs $22 dollars, and it's one of the smallest bottles of mascara that we've come across.

Overall, TBC suggests buying it. Although it's a little on the pricey side, it's perfect for a dramatic look without the damages that other mascara's may come with.

DVF Fall 2010 READY-TO-WEAR

Diane Von Furstenberg’s fall 2010 collection’s tag line: “I always wanted to live a man’s life in a woman’s body.” The collection featured tailored jackets over flirty dresses, slouchy cardigans over silk dresses, pinstripes on jackets, tweed and felted wool blazers layered over short organza dresses. Metamorphosis was also a theme “femme fatale she is who she wants to be. Soft and feminine pieces with metallic striped trousers, cable-knit sweaters, black leather bustier dresses and chiffon ruffles. Clothes were filled with embellishments, plus gorgeous prints straight out the 70’s. There’s been a lot of focus on wearable layering clothes during NYFW thus far and DVF was all over it.

Rag and Bone Fall 2010 READY-TO-WEAR

Fall 2010 READY-TO-WEAR is all about layering and menswear. And designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwritght of Rag and Bone did not disappoint. Their inspirations for their collection were Scottish Highlanders layering for an urban battle and “crazy English guys who climbed Mount Everest in the twenties in tweed.” Every look was multifaceted, models were layered to a delightful degree, and had pieces that could be worn straight off the runway; which who doesn’t love that. You saw all this and more with their first look that hit the runway; blue plaid shirt worn under a gray wool vest with a knit kilt, plaid scarf, cashmere legwarmers and tall black combat boots. The parade of hits continued with knit jackets, ponchos, leather dresses, blazers, shirt dresses, men’s cardigans and surplus of other separates. There's something there for everyone in this collection. This being Rag and Bones first womenswear- only show they did an amazing job, many believe this is their best yet.

Andre Leon Talley is Coming To America's Next Top Model

Vogue Editor-at-Large, Andre Leon Talley will be gracing our television screens for three cycles of ANTM. The man who has NEVER seen an episode of the show is excited to lend his advice where J. Alexander once did but, not as a runway coach.

"André speaks about fashion and he has such a passion, and the words - the adverbs, the adjectives - he uses! I know it's going to make the viewer at home go, 'Wowww.' It might go over their head, but he's educating them about a time, bringing them back to a place when fashion was life," Tyra said (via Stuff.co).

We're excited to see that he'll be joining the ANTM team, this will give us a chance to tune in since the program hasn't been watched since high school. And, yes Anna Wintour has giving her blessing so this is set in stone!

The Wolfman

Yesterday, TBC met with the Guts and Guile creator and decided to catch up on Benicio Del Toro's latest film The Wolfman:

Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro), who is jokingly referred to as the Prodigal Son, returns to his English home after his brother has been savagely murdered. While there, he vows to stay until he finds who or what is at fault. In the midst of of finding the truth in a Gypsy camp he's attacked. And while healing in his father's (Anthony Hopkins) home, he is faced with the stark past of his mother's death, an insane asylum, and his feelings toward his father. From there the movie takes a few twists and turns that aren't expected.

While she thought the film was unimpressive, I was was actually engaged. Where she found faults in the Werewolf costume, I was intrigued and while I jumped she laughed. Maybe this is because, the closet thing I've seen to a Werewolf film is Michael Jackson's Thriller, and the smallest things give me cause to cover my eyes. Either way... It seems if you don't have too much experience with the monster that's created with the arrival of a full moon this movie is a good starter. But, if you've seen your share of scary movies stay away from The Wolfman, you'll probably be entertained but, for all of the wrong reasons.

Alexander McQueen found Dead

Alexander McQueen, a pivotal player in the fashion industry, was found dead in his home Thursday morning. The cause of death is not yet confirmed, however he expressed extreme sadness over the recent death of his mother which has lead some to believe that this is a suicide. He was 40 years old.

In the midst of fashion week he is not forgotten, designers, models and editors shared their thoughts on the recent loss.

“We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greates talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. Spencer Day is an Artist You Should Know About.

Spencer Day has a rich voice that's similar to a baritone you might find in the streets of New Orleans. And his songs are filled with instruments you wouldn't normally hear while listening to the top ten on your local radio station. These are a couple of the reasons we fancy his new tune "Till You Come to Me". We also love the Broadway feeling his songs bring out of you.
